About 500 Islamic scholars and religious leaders from Northern Nigeria have reportedly endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

The claim was made by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Ibrahim Masari, following his participation in the Northern Muslim Intellectual Forum held in Dutse, Jigawa State.

The forum, held at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall, New Secretariat, brought together Islamic scholars, intellectuals, religious leaders and other stakeholders from the 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to a statement issued by Masari’s media office, participants discussed major challenges affecting Northern Nigeria, including insecurity, infrastructure deficits and economic development.

Among those who attended the gathering were Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, Yobe State Governor Mai Buni, Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaka Darma, were also present.

The statement said the participants expressed satisfaction with what they described as progress under the Tinubu administration, particularly in the areas of security, economic reforms and infrastructure development.

It added that the gathering reached a unanimous resolution endorsing Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

The participants were also said to have passed a vote of confidence in the President and called on Nigerians, particularly those in the North, to support his re-election and vote for candidates of the All Progressives Congress in the forthcoming elections.

The forum further emphasised the need for political stability, national unity and constructive engagement among political, religious and community leaders.

The reported endorsement comes shortly after the APC released the names of members of President Tinubu’s presidential campaign council ahead of the 2027 election.

The claim of the endorsement was made by Masari and represents the position attributed to participants at the Northern Muslim Intellectual Forum.
