The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has pledged to sustain and improve policies introduced by Governor Seyi Makinde, particularly those relating to workers’ welfare, education and infrastructure.

Adekanmbi made the pledge on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, during an engagement with representatives of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and other education-sector stakeholders in Oyo town.

The education unions presented their demands and expectations to the APM candidate while acknowledging what they described as the positive impact of the Makinde administration on workers’ welfare.

Adekanmbi commended Makinde for his attention to the welfare of civil servants and pensioners, saying an administration led by him would build on policies that had benefited residents rather than discontinue them.

According to him, governance should involve continuity, improvement and the development of existing foundations.

“Governor Seyi Makinde has demonstrated commitment to workers’ welfare and we will not do differently. We will improve on the achievements of the present administration because governance is about continuity and building on existing foundations,” Adekanmbi said.

He also assured civil servants and pensioners that salaries and pensions would continue to be paid promptly if the APM wins the governorship election.

On education, Adekanmbi promised to recruit additional teaching and non-teaching personnel to address manpower shortages in public schools.

He further proposed an annual training allowance for teachers, stressing that regular professional development would help educators keep pace with modern teaching methods.

“I understand your pains. I have listened to your concerns and I will ensure that the welfare and professional development of our teachers receive the attention they deserve,” he said.

Adekanmbi said his administration would also consider demands from teachers and non-academic workers, including peculiarity allowances, representation on pension boards, recruitment of additional non-teaching staff, upgrading of officers to Levels 16 and 17, and opportunities for staff conversion.

He further pledged to promote the digitalisation of secondary education through the introduction of e-lesson notes, better utilisation of school facilities and improved security in schools.

The APM candidate also promised regular payment of grants to educational institutions and said his administration would consider introducing rural allowances for teachers working in remote communities.

According to him, such incentives could encourage teachers to remain in underserved areas and help improve the quality of education in rural communities.

Adekanmbi also promised to strengthen infrastructure across Oyo State while ensuring that development reaches different parts of the state.

He called on residents to support the APM at all levels in future elections, from the presidency to the state House of Assembly, saying the party was committed to sustaining and advancing the development recorded in the state.

He maintained that Oyo State had experienced growth in recent years and argued that continuity, strategic planning and inclusive governance would be important in sustaining such progress.

“We believe Oyo State is growing, and for our people to continue to enjoy that growth, there must be continuity,” he added.
