The Kaduna State Government has dismissed as fake a viral letter claiming that Governor Uba Sani approved and released ₦2.3 trillion for the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign.

The government described the document as fraudulent and misleading, alleging that it was circulated to tarnish the governor’s reputation and undermine his administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline and responsible management of public funds.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday.

According to Maiyaki, the purported letter, dated October 18, 2026, and titled “Notification for Preparations for the Grand Rally Flag Off,” contained several inconsistencies that raised questions about its authenticity.

The document, which was allegedly addressed to Senator Abdulazeez Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, claimed that the governor had released ₦2.3 trillion to fund the campaign flag-off.

However, the commissioner described the alleged expenditure as financially implausible, noting that Kaduna State’s 2026 budget stood at ₦985.92 billion.

He explained that the amount cited in the viral letter was more than twice the state’s entire annual budget and was not supported by any legitimate appropriation, approval or expenditure records.

Maiyaki also pointed to apparent irregularities in the document, including the misspelling of the governor’s surname as “Uba Sai” and the alleged unauthorised reproduction of his signature.

“The Kaduna State Government categorically disowns this document. Gov. Uba Sani neither authored nor authorised the purported letter, and no N2.3 trillion was budgeted, approved or released,” the commissioner stated.

He described the allegation as fictitious and an attempt to mislead the public about the state government’s financial activities.

The commissioner further maintained that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Sani had prioritised transparency, accountability, fiscal discipline and prudent management of public resources.

He listed security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection as key areas receiving attention under the administration.

Maiyaki expressed concern over what he described as coordinated misinformation intended to discredit the governor and his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He warned that the fabrication of official correspondence and the circulation of false financial claims could constitute criminal offences.

“Political competition must be conducted within the bounds of truth, decency and the law,” he said, urging critics to present credible evidence when raising questions about government spending.

The commissioner disclosed that efforts were underway to establish the origin of the purported letter. He also called on security and investigative agencies to investigate the document and ensure that anyone found responsible was dealt with in accordance with the law.

He urged media organisations and members of the public to verify the authenticity of official documents before publishing or circulating allegations involving public expenditure.

Maiyaki reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to peace, institutional strengthening, infrastructure development, public welfare and sustainable governance.

He added that the administration would remain focused on responsible financial management and service delivery despite what it described as attempts to distract it through misinformation.
