Federal High Court Orders Interim Forfeiture of 57 Properties Linked to Ex-AGF Malami

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the interim forfeiture of 57 properties allegedly linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and his two sons, Abdulaziz and Abiru-Rahman Malami, over suspected money laundering.

Justice Emeka Nwite granted the order on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, following an ex-parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) through its counsel, Ekele Iheanacho (SAN). The court held that the assets, valued at about ₦213.2 billion, are reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.

The properties, spread across Abuja, Kebbi, Kano and Kaduna states, are listed as follows:

  1. Luxury duplex on Amazon Street, Maitama, Abuja;
  2. Two-wing storey building (former Harmonia Hotels) on Onitsha Crescent, Garki, Abuja;
  3. Five-storey Meethaq Hotel in Jabi District, Abuja;
  4. Terrace apartments in Asokoro District, Abuja;
  5. Meethaq Hotel on Rhine Street, Maitama, Abuja;
  6. Property on Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Asokoro, Abuja;
  7. Shop C82 at Citiscape–Shariff Plaza, Wuse II, Abuja;
  8. Residence on Ahmadu Bello Way, Nasarawa GRA, Kano;
  9. Property on Lamido Crescent, Nasarawa GRA, Kano;
  10. Plaza and warehouse facilities near Birnin Kebbi Market;
  11. 100 hectares of land along Birnin Kebbi–Jega Road;

Justice Nwite ordered that the assets be temporarily forfeited to the Federal Government and directed the EFCC to publish the order, inviting interested parties to appear before the court and show cause why the properties should not be permanently forfeited. The EFCC alleges that the assets were acquired with funds inconsistent with the known legitimate income of the former justice minister and his associates.
