Barcelona stormed into the Spanish Super Cup final with an emphatic 5–0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday night in Jeddah, powered by a brace from Raphinha.

The holders and record 15-time champions will now face either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid, who clash in the second semi-final on Thursday, with the final scheduled for Sunday.

Despite leaving teenage sensation Lamine Yamal on the bench, Hansi Flick’s side were dominant from start to finish at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. The win extended Barcelona’s blistering run to nine consecutive victories in all competitions, underlining their strong form as La Liga leaders.

Athletic Bilbao, struggling for consistency this season, were outclassed throughout the encounter.

Barcelona opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Ferran Torres capitalised on a fortunate rebound after Fermin Lopez’s miscued effort fell kindly into his path. The Catalans doubled their lead moments later with a more polished move, as Raphinha teed up Lopez, who smashed the ball into the top corner.

The goals continued to flow, with Swedish winger Roony Bardghji adding a third after Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon failed to deal with a low shot, allowing it to slip under his body and into the net. The error raised fresh questions over Simon’s form, especially with Barcelona’s Joan Garcia pushing for recognition ahead of the World Cup.

Raphinha made it 4–0 in the 38th minute, curling a powerful effort into the top left corner as Barcelona maintained relentless pressure. Athletic’s only real moment of hope came when Oihan Sancet struck the post, but it proved a rare bright spot on a difficult night for the Basque side.

The Brazilian winger completed his brace shortly after the restart, finishing clinically from close range to seal a comprehensive win for Barcelona, who last lifted the Super Cup in 2025 and went on to claim both La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

With Flick keen to use the competition as a launchpad for further success, Barcelona now head into the final full of confidence and momentum.
