Hosts Morocco have advanced to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Nigeria 4–2 on penalties in a tense semi-final encounter on Wednesday.
The match, played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, ended goalless after 90 minutes and extra time, with both sides unable to find a breakthrough despite several chances.
Morocco held their nerve during the shootout, converting four of their spot-kicks to seal victory and send the home fans into celebration, while Nigeria managed just two successful efforts.
With the win, Morocco have set up a final showdown against Senegal, who earlier secured their place in the decider with a narrow 1–0 victory over Egypt, courtesy of a strike from Sadio Mané.
Sunday’s final will see Morocco aim for continental glory on home soil, while Senegal look to extend their impressive run at the tournament.
