The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Thursday called on the Federal Government to assist in addressing the ecological challenges facing Ibadan.
He made the appeal during a visit to Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, at his Abuja office.
In a statement released by his media aide, Adeola Oloko, Oba Ladoja acknowledged prior Federal Government and World Bank efforts on the Ogunpa channelisation project but stressed that more needs to be done.
According to the monarch, “The Ogunpa ecological problem has attracted attention because it affects prominent areas, including Mokola, Ekotedo, Ogunpa, Oke Ado, and Molete. I am appealing to the Federal Government to extend support to the downtrodden communities around Oranyan, Kudeti, Agbongbon, and other parts of the city that have not received similar attention through no fault of theirs. The hardships residents face during the rainy season are beyond imagination.”
In response, SGF Akume praised the Olubadan for personally bringing the plight of his people to the nation’s attention, noting that such dedication has earned him widespread admiration. He assured that the Federal Government would take all necessary steps to provide assistance.
Oba Ladoja was accompanied on the visit by Senator Fatai Buhari (Oyo North) and Senator Sharafadeen Alli (Oyo South), among others.
