Security operatives on Thursday reportedly made an attempt to arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, shortly after he arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, from Cairo, Egypt.
The allegation was disclosed by El-Rufai’s Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, in a post shared on his verified X handle.
According to Adekeye, the operatives approached the former governor as he disembarked from his flight and sought to take him into custody. However, El-Rufai allegedly declined to accompany them, maintaining that he would not comply without receiving a formal invitation.
“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation,” the statement read.
Adekeye further claimed that during the encounter, the security personnel confiscated El-Rufai’s passport from one of his aides.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged attempt remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.
