Vice President Kashim Shettima has strongly denounced the recent surge of violence in Nigeria’s North-East, describing members of Boko Haram as “monsters” who have no regard for human life.

Speaking during a visit to victims of the attacks in Borno State, Shettima said no religion supports the killing of innocent people, condemning the actions of the insurgents in the strongest terms.

The attacks, which involved multiple explosions and assaults, have reportedly left at least 23 people dead and 108 others injured.

“It is a tragedy because no religion permits the killing of innocent lives,” the Vice President said, adding that he does not consider the perpetrators as part of the human race.

He assured residents that the Federal Government remains determined to restore peace and stability across the region, stressing that efforts to end the insurgency will continue until normalcy is fully achieved.

“Until peace is fully restored in Borno, the North-East, and the entire country, we will not relent,” he said. “No matter how long the darkness lasts, it will eventually give way to light.”

Shettima described the government as “eternal optimists,” pledging intensified action to defeat insurgency and rebuild affected communities.

He also announced immediate humanitarian assistance for victims, revealing that agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency and the North East Development Commission have been mobilised to provide relief materials and support to those affected.

According to him, emergency responders are already working with state authorities to deliver aid to injured victims and families of the deceased, with plans to expand relief operations in the coming days.

The Vice President further acknowledged the efforts of local officials and emergency responders coordinating rescue and recovery operations, while urging the media to continue highlighting the challenges faced by communities in the region.
