A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Isma’il Abdullahi Chafe of the 248 Recce Battalion, Illela Barracks, has reportedly lost his life following a suspected terrorist ambush in Sokoto State.

The incident was said to have occurred late on Saturday, May 16, 2026, during an attack allegedly carried out by Lakurawa terrorists. Reports indicated that the late officer was among several soldiers killed while on active duty.

Lieutenant Chafe was reportedly preparing for his wedding, which had been scheduled for June 13, 2026, before the tragic incident occurred.

The news of his death surfaced through multiple posts on X, formerly Twitter, where friends, relatives, and associates expressed grief and paid tribute to the fallen officer. Some users also accused military authorities of failing to provide official information about the attack.

An X user, Umar Mollahlee (@Mollahlee7), who described the deceased as his brother, claimed the officer “was killed yesterday in an ambush in Sokoto.” He also alleged that attempts to get clarification from military authorities had not yielded results.

The post sparked emotional reactions online, with many calling for greater transparency regarding the reported attack and casualties.

Another user, Zaffine (@MANSURSADIQ01), described Lieutenant Chafe as a close relative and friend, mourning the loss in an emotional tribute. He lamented that the officer died only weeks before his planned wedding ceremony.

Similarly, another user, sir_hukuma (@AhmadUba01), described the late officer as a brother who “paid the ultimate price during an ambush,” while praying for his eternal rest.

Reactions also poured in on Instagram after a Northern Magazine post about the incident. One user, identified as 5lawan, described the deceased as “one of the nicest people you will ever come across.”

Another commenter, dumtexgallery_, described him as humble, gentle, and religious, praying for him to attain eternal rest.

A third user, ahmad_mammi, recalled their time together at the academy, saying the late officer was kind and widely respected among his colleagues.
