The lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, , has accused some members of the All Progressives Congress of intimidation and coercion ahead of the party’s direct primaries in Surulere.
In a video shared on his X account on Sunday, Elliot appealed to party leaders to ensure a transparent and peaceful primary election, alleging that some party loyalists were being pressured to support specific aspirants.
He praised President and the APC leadership for approving direct primaries nationwide, describing the process as a true test of candidates’ popularity.
According to him, the exercise should allow party members to freely choose their preferred candidates without threats or manipulation.
Elliot, however, claimed that intimidation and arm-twisting had become widespread in Surulere, with some individuals allegedly warning party members that they could lose access to empowerment programmes if they failed to back certain aspirants.
The lawmaker also alleged that several local government workers were dismissed because of their support for him, insisting that such actions were unfair and against the spirit of party unity.
He further accused local government authorities of openly supporting another aspirant months before the primaries, saying he had initially remained silent about the development.
Elliot additionally revealed that his security aides were withdrawn shortly before the primary election, questioning the reason behind the move.
He warned against attempts to import thugs or create violence during the exercise and urged all supporters to maintain peace ahead of the May 20, 2026 primary.
The APC chieftain called on party leaders to investigate the allegations and encouraged his supporters not to be intimidated, assuring them that security would be provided during the election.
He also urged party members to support other APC candidates in upcoming elections, including Wasiu Eshinoku, Deputy Governor , and President Tinubu.
Elliot concluded by appealing for peace and fairness in Surulere politics.
