The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has declared Deputy Governor as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election following the party’s primary held on Thursday.
The exercise, conducted at the APC Secretariat in Acme, Ogba, was described by party officials as peaceful and transparent.
Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor , Jubril Gawat, shared a video of the result announcement on X shortly after the exercise.
Chairman of the APC National Governorship Election Committee, , announced the outcome in the presence of Governor Sanwo-Olu, party leaders, lawmakers, local government chairmen, members of the Lagos State Executive Council, and other stakeholders.
According to the electoral committee, Hamzat secured 657,917 votes out of 657,974 accredited votes cast, while fellow aspirant Lanre Jim-Kamal received one vote. Another contender, Samuel Ajose, had withdrawn from the race before voting commenced.
Declaring the result, Temlong said Hamzat had met all constitutional requirements of the party and was therefore returned as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
In his acceptance speech, Hamzat thanked party leaders, supporters, and Governor Sanwo-Olu for their contributions to the growth of the state and the party.
He also expressed appreciation to members of the National Assembly, the Governance Advisory Council, the electoral committee, and President for their support and leadership.
“With humility, I accept the candidacy of the APC in the upcoming 2027 elections,” Hamzat said.
