Leaders of the Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa (NICASA) have urged Nigerians living in the country to obey South African laws and maintain valid immigration documents.
The association gave the advice during a crime awareness webinar titled “Living Lawfully in South Africa,” aimed at educating Nigerians on responsible conduct and community engagement.
In a statement issued after the event, NICASA President, Rev. Frank Onyekwelu, warned Nigerians against involvement in crimes such as fraud, drug-related offences, cybercrime, and violence.
According to him, the webinar was organised to enlighten members of the Nigerian community on the importance of lawful behaviour and protecting Nigeria’s image abroad.
He noted that Nigerians in South Africa continue to make meaningful contributions to the country’s economy, education, religion, and social development, stressing that such contributions must be backed by respect for the law and peaceful coexistence.
Onyekwelu also revealed that the event featured notable speakers, including the Consul General of Nigeria in Johannesburg, Mrs. Ninikanwa Okey-Uche, retired South African police commissioner, Major-General Max Masha, and Nigerian lawyer Austin Okeke.
Participants at the webinar were encouraged to uphold values that promote peace, dignity, and responsible citizenship while living in South Africa.
