The leader of the United Nigerian Americans Council in Maryland, Dr. Chris Ademiluyi, says the organisation is committed to encouraging Nigerians living in the United States to become more actively involved in American politics.
Ademiluyi explained that the group was established in 2019 with the aim of motivating members of the Nigerian-American community to register to vote, participate in elections, and contest for political offices across the United States.
Speaking in a statement released on Friday, she defended Nigerians seeking elective positions in the US, stressing that greater political participation would strengthen the community’s voice and representation.
According to her, the council remains focused on advocating increased political engagement among Nigerians in Maryland and beyond.
She noted that the organisation is working to build awareness and support within the Nigerian-American community, while encouraging members to see voting as a powerful tool for influencing policies and elections.
Ademiluyi added that although many members may not contribute financially to political campaigns, they still believe their votes can make a meaningful impact in the democratic process.
She said the council’s long-term vision is to empower more Nigerians in the diaspora to become active participants in governance and civic affairs in the United States.
