The management of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano State, has suspended a planned excursion to New Bussa in Niger State over security concerns raised by parents and other stakeholders.

The university said the decision was approved by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasai, after reviewing reports on the security situation in the proposed location for the eight-week compulsory field exercise for 400-level Fisheries students.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Affairs, Abdullahi Datti Abdullahi, the institution explained that the Vice Chancellor had already rejected the proposed trip before public concerns escalated.

According to the statement, the Vice Chancellor directed the Department of Fisheries to identify a safer location for the exercise, leading to the selection of Tiga Dam in Kano State.

The university confirmed that the students would now carry out the mandatory field exercise at Tiga Dam instead of travelling to Niger State.

The management stressed that the safety and welfare of students remain a top priority both on and off campus.

It also assured parents and guardians that there were no plans to take students to any unsafe location, urging them to remain calm amid concerns surrounding the proposed excursion.

The clarification followed reports of opposition from parents over the planned trip involving more than 30 students to Niger State, which many considered unsafe due to ongoing security challenges in the area.
