The House of Representatives has approved a minor reshuffle in the leadership of some of its Standing Committees following the recent reconstitution of the Minority Caucus leadership.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, announced the changes as part of efforts to enhance legislative oversight, strengthen accountability, and improve the efficiency of parliamentary administration.
Under the new arrangement, Aliyu Sani Madaki, representing Kano State, has been appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties. He replaces Fred Agbedi of Bayelsa State, who recently assumed office as the House Minority Leader.
In a similar development, Ali Isa J.C. from Gombe State has been named Chairman of the House Committee on Shipping Services, succeeding Abdussamad Dasuki of Sokoto State, who was recently appointed Deputy Minority Leader.
The restructuring also affected the House Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Paschal Agbodike of Anambra State has been moved from the House Committee on Hydrological Services/HYPADEC to take charge of the SMEs Committee.
Agbodike replaces Mansur Manu Soro of Bauchi State, who now serves as the House Minority Whip.
As a result of the changes, Kelechi Nwogu of Rivers State has been appointed Chairman of the House Committee on Hydrological Services/HYPADEC.
The House explained that the adjustments became necessary following the emergence of new leaders within the Minority Caucus and are intended to ensure continuity in committee activities and the effective performance of legislative responsibilities.
According to the House leadership, the committee changes underscore its commitment to efficient legislative governance, stronger institutional oversight, and improved service delivery to Nigerians.
