Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight vehicles after dismantling a suspected ISWAP roadblock along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The military said the operation took place on Wednesday, June 24, as part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations in Nigeria’s North-East. It was carried out by troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, soldiers stationed at Dutse Kura detected suspected ISWAP fighters blocking the highway through surveillance cameras.
A Quick Reaction Force (QRF) was immediately deployed to the location. The troops pursued the insurgents toward the Mangari–Dora area, where they engaged them in a gun battle.
The military said the terrorists were forced to retreat following the exchange of fire, allowing the troops to clear the road and secure the area.
During the operation, 53 civilians who had been held by the insurgents were rescued, while eight vehicles previously seized by the terrorists were recovered.

Troops also conducted further clearance operations along the route used by the fleeing insurgents to prevent additional threats. Although no further contact was made with the terrorists, the area was successfully secured.

The rescued civilians, along with the recovered vehicles and other property, were safely evacuated to Buratai town. Military authorities said the victims are currently undergoing documentation and medical examinations.
Operation HADIN KAI commended the professionalism and swift response of the troops involved in the mission. The command also urged residents within the operational area to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information on suspicious movements to security agencies.

According to the military, the security situation in the area remains calm, with troops maintaining a strong operational presence to deter further attacks.
