Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced that the state’s surveillance aircraft is in the final stage of delivery as part of efforts to strengthen security and improve emergency response across the state.
The governor disclosed this in his June 2026 newsletter titled “Security, Service and Progress,” where he also updated residents on ongoing security operations, including efforts to rescue abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area.
Makinde explained that the aircraft’s delivery has been slightly delayed due to additional technical procedures required before it can be handed over. According to him, the final checks are necessary to ensure the aircraft meets all operational, regulatory and safety standards before it is deployed.
He assured residents that once commissioned, the aircraft would be immediately available for operations, boosting the state’s capacity for aerial surveillance, emergency response and other security-related activities.
The governor said his administration would continue to keep the public informed on the progress of the delivery.
On the security situation in Oriire, Makinde revealed that security agencies were maintaining coordinated operations to secure the safe release of the abducted pupils and teachers, with the state government providing the necessary support.
He noted that the temporary 16-hour curfew imposed on 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park was designed to strengthen security operations and create a safer environment for the ongoing rescue mission.
Makinde also stated that preparations were in progress for the safe reopening of schools, stressing that while education remains a priority, the safety of pupils, teachers and host communities would continue to guide government decisions.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving public safety through sustained investments in security infrastructure, education and other critical sectors.
He expressed appreciation to the people of Oyo State for their cooperation, resilience and support, pledging to continue working towards a safer, stronger and more prosperous state.
