Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has returned to Nigeria following a brief business trip abroad, paving the way for the official unveiling of his running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Atiku arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Saturday night, where he was welcomed by supporters and party loyalists.
His return comes amid growing anticipation over the formal presentation of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, as the ADC’s vice-presidential candidate. Although the party had earlier announced Amaechi as Atiku’s running mate, the official public unveiling has been delayed due to Atiku’s absence from the country.
In a post shared on social media, Atiku’s media aide, Abdulrasheed Shehu, confirmed the former vice president’s arrival, saying he was warmly received by enthusiastic supporters and well-wishers after his overseas trip.
Shehu had earlier explained that the delay in announcing Amaechi officially was purely logistical and not linked to any disagreement within the party.
Speaking on June 21, he dismissed reports of a crisis over the vice-presidential slot, insisting there was no internal conflict and assuring Nigerians that the formal unveiling would take place once Atiku returned home.
With Atiku now back in the country, attention is expected to shift to the official presentation of the ADC presidential ticket as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum.
