Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, to participate in the 2026 Jigawa Investment Summit, which begins on Wednesday and runs until July 2.

Shettima, who is the Special Guest of Honour at the event, landed at the Nuhu Muhammad Sunusi International Airport, where he was received by Governor Umar Namadi, Deputy Governor Aminu Gumel, Kano State Deputy Governor Murtala Garo, and other senior government officials.

Also present to welcome the Vice President were the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, members of the Jigawa State Executive Council, and other dignitaries.

The summit, themed “Unlocking Opportunities: Driving Sustainable Growth for a Better Jigawa,” is expected to bring together policymakers, investors, development partners, financial institutions, entrepreneurs and industry leaders to explore investment opportunities across key sectors of the state’s economy.

Shettima is expected to formally declare the summit open as the state government seeks to attract local and foreign investments aimed at accelerating economic growth, creating jobs and promoting sustainable development.

According to the Jigawa State Commissioner for Information, Sagir Musa, discussions during the summit will focus on agriculture, renewable energy, micro, small and medium enterprises, light manufacturing, education and healthcare.

He said the state government is committed to attracting investments that will transform agriculture, harness renewable energy resources and strengthen public-private partnerships in education and healthcare.

Musa described Jigawa as a state with vast economic potential, citing its peaceful business environment, fertile agricultural land, expanding infrastructure and youthful population as key advantages for investors.

The two-day summit is expected to serve as a platform for showcasing Jigawa’s investment opportunities and positioning the state as a preferred destination for both domestic and international investors.
