The Nigerian Embassy in Benin Republic, led by Ambassador Adeola Mopelola Ibrahim, on Monday hosted Ibadan-born cyclist, Captain Olatunji Emmanuel Okedeyi, during a courtesy visit following his arrival in the country on his transcontinental London-to-Lagos cycling expedition.

Speaking during the visit, Captain Olatunji recounted some of the challenges he encountered during the journey, particularly at the Elubo border between Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. He said that despite being an African travelling within the West African region, he experienced significant delays and difficulties before he was eventually cleared to cross the border.

The cyclist disclosed that he travelled through nine countries before arriving in Benin Republic. According to him, the expedition is aimed at raising global awareness for the eradication of polio under the Zero Polio campaign.

In her remarks, Ambassador Adeola Mopelola Ibrahim expressed gratitude to God for preserving Captain Olatunji throughout the demanding journey. She commended his determination and resilience in overcoming the numerous challenges encountered along the route.
