President Bola Tinubu is set to officially unveil the N2.4 trillion Abuja City Walk project on Thursday, marking the commencement of construction on a 250-hectare mixed-use urban development along the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport corridor in the Federal Capital Territory.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to take place between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at Plot 28, Cadastral Zone C17, Industrial Area II, Abuja.

The ambitious project is being developed by MAG Group, through its subsidiary MAG International Links Limited, in partnership with Link Developments.

As part of the launch, the developers are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Saudi royal, Prince Khalid bin Saud bin Khalid bin Turki Al Saud, who will also address investors at the event. The Nigeria-Arab Gulf Chamber of Commerce is also expected to reaffirm its commitment to fostering investment in Nigeria’s real estate sector.

The Abuja City Walk is located within a Federal Government-designated Free Trade Zone, offering tax incentives and a favourable regulatory framework aimed at attracting long-term foreign investment.

Designed by renowned international architectural firm Benoy, the masterplan features a 450-metre skyscraper projected to become Africa’s tallest building. The tower will accommodate commercial offices, luxury residences and hospitality facilities.

Other major components of the development include a 13,000-capacity indoor arena expected to become Nigeria’s largest sports and entertainment venue, as well as an arts district comprising approximately 12,000 square metres of exhibition and performance spaces.

The project will also incorporate an environmentally sustainable ecological corridor known as “The Living Ravine,” designed around the Sponge District concept, which integrates wetlands, green waterways and rainwater harvesting systems to improve flood control and climate resilience. The ecological design has reportedly been shortlisted for the 2026 World Landscape Architecture Awards.

The project gained momentum following reforms introduced by the Federal Capital Territory Administration under FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, including the recovery of dormant land allocations and the completion of key regulatory approvals.

The land, originally allocated to the Abuja Technology Village, had remained undeveloped for more than two decades before the administration issued the Certificate of Occupancy and committed to constructing access roads to the site.

In June 2025, MAG International Links Limited and Link Developments signed the joint venture agreement to develop the district, with plans to combine residential, commercial, hospitality, entertainment and cultural facilities into a modern investment and tourism hub.

Speaking on the initiative, Wike said the development would transform land that had remained idle for over 20 years and help attract investors while creating employment opportunities.

He noted that the project aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda by encouraging private investment, stimulating economic growth and positioning Abuja as a world-class destination comparable to Dubai’s City Walk development.
