The Organising Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State Council, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Ijaya, has been killed after gunmen attacked him in Lagos.

Ajiboye was reportedly attacked on Sunday night while returning home from Fadeyi, his childhood neighbourhood.

According to reports, the assailants ambushed his vehicle along the Ikorodu Road axis and opened fire, leaving several bullet marks on the car.

Images and videos shared online after the incident showed Ajiboye’s white vehicle badly damaged, with bullet holes visible on the windscreen and other parts of the car.

Initial reports suggested that Ajiboye and other occupants of the vehicle survived the attack but sustained gunshot injuries. However, later reports confirmed that the NURTW official succumbed to his injuries.

Reacting to his death, the Chairman of the Lagos NURTW Council, Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, described Ajiboye’s death as a painful loss, saying the late union leader was a trusted associate and dedicated member of the organisation.

In a tribute shared on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Sego said he was deeply saddened by the passing of Ajiboye, whom he described as a loyal friend and a strong pillar of his team.

He wrote, “The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable, and committed ally.”

Sego added that Ajiboye’s contributions to the NURTW and their political structure would remain unforgettable.

“Comrade Toba Ajiboye, the Organising Secretary of the NURTW Lagos State Council, was more than an ally; he was a trusted friend, a man of steadfast loyalty and unwavering commitment, and a true pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation,” he said.

The NURTW chairman extended his condolences to Ajiboye’s family, friends, and colleagues, praying for strength for those mourning the loss.

He added, “May Almighty God forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest, and give us all the strength and fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss.”

Sego described Ajiboye’s death as a great loss, saying his loyalty, friendship, and support would remain cherished.
