The Federation of Approved Driving Schools in Benin Republic has released a proposed budget estimate for individuals seeking to obtain a Beninese driver’s licence, placing the cost of training at approximately CFA698,000.

According to the proposed pricing structure, candidates would be expected to complete 120 hours of driving instruction at the estimated cost.

The announcement has already sparked reactions among prospective drivers, with many expressing concern over the affordability of the training.
For comparison, Benin’s guaranteed minimum wage (SMIG) is less than CFA60,000 per month. This means the projected training fee is roughly equivalent to 12 months’ earnings for a worker earning the minimum wage, raising questions about access to driving education for low-income residents.
The cost estimate was published by the Federation of Approved Driving Schools and has generated widespread public debate over the financial burden it could place on aspiring drivers.
