The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to embark on his annual leave, paving the way for Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal to oversee the administration of the state during his absence.
Makinde is scheduled to begin his leave on August 10, 2026, and return on September 14, 2026, following the end of the vacation on September 11.
The approval was granted during Thursday’s plenary after lawmakers considered a letter from the governor, in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, which requires a governor to formally notify the State House of Assembly before proceeding on leave or being absent from office.
The governor’s letter was presented by Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the sitting in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
Following deliberations, members of the Assembly unanimously endorsed the request and expressed confidence in Deputy Governor Lawal’s ability to effectively manage the affairs of the state until Governor Makinde resumes his official duties.
