The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled former Agege Local Government Chairman Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi and Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninalowo after the duo defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to pursue their bids for seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly in the 2027 elections.
Their expulsion followed their rejection of the outcome of the APC nomination process for Agege Constituencies I and II and their subsequent decision to contest the election on the platform of the APM.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, accused the two politicians of engaging in anti-party activities and acts of disloyalty that violated the party’s constitution and disciplinary rules.
Ojelabi said Egunjobi and Ninalowo participated in the APC nomination process but, after the party reviewed the initial results and replaced them with other candidates, chose to seek the tickets of another political party.
According to him, the APC invoked Article 9(5)(II) of its 2022 amended constitution in expelling the duo.
“The Party’s position is that membership of the APC cannot be treated as a convenient political garment to be worn during a primary and discarded immediately after an unsuccessful outcome,” Ojelabi said.
He added that members who lose internal party contests were expected either to accept the outcome or seek redress through the party’s established mechanisms rather than contest against the APC under another platform in the same electoral cycle.
Egunjobi and Ninalowo were initially reported to have emerged as winners of the APC primaries conducted in May 2026. They were also adopted as consensus candidates at an Agege APC caucus meeting presided over by Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
However, following a subsequent review of the nomination process, the Lagos APC recognised Oluwagbenga Abiola as its candidate for Agege Constituency I and Enimakure Akindele Sakiru for Agege Constituency II.
The decision effectively displaced Egunjobi and Ninalowo from the APC’s list of candidates.
Egunjobi subsequently challenged the revised outcome, alleging that the result announced by the Lagos APC did not correspond with the votes recorded during the primary election.
The two politicians later moved to the APM, a development reported on September 17.
Their defection came months after Obasa publicly backed their candidacies during preparations for the APC primaries.
In May, the Speaker had appealed to APC members in Agege to support Egunjobi for Constituency I and Ninalowo for Constituency II.
While the two politicians eventually lost the APC tickets following the review of the nomination results, Obasa secured the APC ticket for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.
He emerged as the party’s candidate unopposed at the APC primary held in May.
