The United States Department of State has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to the identification or apprehension of Amir Yaryab, whom the US government has identified as a senior figure in Iran’s cyber operations structure.

The announcement was made under the Rewards for Justice programme, an initiative operated by the Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service that offers financial rewards for information related to threats to US national security.

According to the department, Yaryab heads the Cyber Operations Command of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Cyber Electronic Command (IRGC-CEC).

US authorities allege that, in that capacity, Yaryab directs cyber groups accused of carrying out malicious activities against American interests, including attacks targeting critical infrastructure.

The Department of State specifically named groups known as Shahid Hemmat and Shahid Shushtari, alleging that they operate under Yaryab’s direction.

The department urged anyone with credible information about Yaryab, the IRGC-CEC, or individuals and organisations associated with the network to submit confidential information through channels provided by the US government.

Authorities said eligible informants could receive a financial reward and, in certain circumstances, assistance with relocation.

The US government did not disclose the specific conditions that would determine the final amount paid to an informant.

The announcement comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, with cyber activities attributed to Iranian state-linked actors becoming an increasing concern for Washington, particularly regarding threats to critical infrastructure.

The reward offer also comes against the backdrop of the broader military confrontation involving Iran, the United States and Israel, which has continued to generate significant regional and international tensions.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump sparked further controversy after suggesting that the strategically important Strait of Hormuz could be renamed “Trump Strait.”

Trump made the suggestion in a post on his Truth Social platform, claiming that the waterway was under US control amid the escalating confrontation with Iran.

The prolonged conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel has resulted in significant destruction and loss of lives, while raising concerns over its potential impact on regional security and global stability.

The latest US reward announcement places Yaryab at the centre of Washington’s allegations concerning Iran’s cyber operations and signals continued efforts by US authorities to disrupt networks they accuse of threatening American infrastructure and national security.
