Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to Europe for a short vacation, while directing an investigation into the ongoing dispute over the traditional rulership of Koka town in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.
The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, disclosed on Sunday that Adeleke would also visit the United Kingdom for a medical check-up during the trip before proceeding to other destinations, which would be announced later.
Speaking at the Lagos airport before his departure, Adeleke described the trip as an opportunity to rest and prepare himself for continued service to the people of Osun State.
“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” the governor said.
Meanwhile, Adeleke has instructed the Osun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate reports concerning the appointment of another traditional ruler for Koka Ilase.
The development has reportedly created a dispute over the kingship of the community, with claims that two individuals are now laying claim to the traditional stool.
Adeleke said the investigation was necessary to establish the facts surrounding the matter and ensure that due process was followed in accordance with the state’s chieftaincy laws and established traditional practices.
“I read of another King appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight,” he said.
The governor also appealed to all parties involved to remain calm and peaceful while the ministry conducts its investigation.
He stressed that traditional institutions are governed by existing laws and regulations, assuring stakeholders that his administration would uphold both the law and the customs and traditions of the people.
“Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” Adeleke added.
