Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has declared his support for Pelumi Olajengbesi, the Accord Party candidate for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency of Osun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Igboho made his position known on Sunday when Olajengbesi, a lawyer and former campaign spokesperson for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign, visited him at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Olajengbesi is seeking to unseat the incumbent lawmaker representing the constituency, Wole Oke of the All Progressives Congress, in the 2027 election.
According to a statement from Olajengbesi’s media office, Igboho recalled the support the lawyer provided during some of the most difficult periods of his life.
Igboho particularly recalled Olajengbesi’s intervention following the July 2021 raid on his Ibadan residence during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Following the incident, Igboho fled to the Benin Republic, where he was subsequently detained.
The activist said Olajengbesi stood by him during the legal challenges surrounding his detention and also assisted him when he wanted to organise the burial of his mother.
Igboho also credited Olajengbesi with intervening with relevant authorities, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, when he faced concerns over possible arrest.
He further acknowledged Olajengbesi’s support in the formation of the Irun Ekun Security Network, which has a presence in parts of the South-West.
Igboho said he was supporting Olajengbesi’s ambition because of the lawyer’s previous assistance to him.
“It’s important to have a change in representation in the constituency. Pelumi is a breath of fresh air,” Igboho said.
He added that he would mobilise support for Olajengbesi during the election, while urging the candidate to fulfil his promises if elected.
“However, I want to implore you to fulfil your campaign promises to the good people of Oriade-Obokun Federal Constituency,” he said.
Olajengbesi Promises Youth-Focused Representation
Speaking during the visit, Olajengbesi said the federal constituency needed vibrant youth representation and a departure from what he described as the recycling of old ideas.
The Accord Party candidate pledged to provide effective representation and pursue programmes aimed at promoting development across Oriade/Obokun if elected in 2027.
The endorsement by Igboho adds another layer to the political contest for the constituency as parties and candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
