President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after spending about four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.
Tinubu arrived in Lagos on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, aboard the Nigerian Air Force One. His aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, at about 6:22 p.m.
The President was received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy President of the Senate Barau Jibrin, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and other government officials and political associates.
FROM LONDON TO PARIS
Tinubu left Nigeria on August 30, initially travelling to London, United Kingdom, where he spent about one week before proceeding to Paris, France.
The Presidency later announced an extension of his working vacation by several days. During the trip, Tinubu remained in contact with officials in Nigeria and continued to receive updates on government affairs, according to the Presidency.
While in Paris, the President held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and met business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group. He also met First HoldCo Chairman Femi Otedola.
The President also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of a Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside and a Blue Marine Economic Zone. The Presidency said the proposed project is expected to attract about $7 billion in investment.
WHY TINUBU RETURNED THROUGH LAGOS
According to the Presidency, Tinubu chose to return through Lagos to honour the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, widely known as MKO Abiola.
The President is expected to attend, on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day, the premiere of a film honouring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
The Presidency also said Tinubu would hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates while in Lagos before returning to Abuja.
PRESIDENT SAYS HE IS READY TO RESUME WORK
Speaking after his arrival in Lagos, Tinubu said he enjoyed his stay in Europe and described himself as ready to resume his duties.
The President’s return ends his extended four-week stay outside Nigeria and comes ahead of activities surrounding the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
