The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Akinola Damilare, popularly known as General Don, for allegedly impersonating a military officer in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The suspect was reportedly arrested at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta, following intelligence provided by a community leader.

The arrest was carried out by operatives of the command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit after a discreet surveillance operation.

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operation was part of the command’s efforts to tackle impersonation and other criminal activities across the state.

Items allegedly recovered from the suspect included a military face cap, a pair of three-quarter military trousers and four photographs showing him dressed in military uniform.

Babaseyi confirmed the arrest, stating that the police acted on credible intelligence before apprehending the suspect.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating criminal activities, particularly the impersonation of security personnel.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police to support efforts towards maintaining public safety.

The police disclosed that investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s alleged activities and establish whether other individuals were involved.

The suspect is expected to face the appropriate legal process upon the conclusion of investigations.
