The Kano State Censorship Board has suspended two Kannywood actors, Amina Uba Hassan and Adam Garba, over their appearance in a video alleged to contain indecent content.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the board said the decision was part of efforts to maintain discipline, preserve moral standards, and enforce regulations guiding film production in Kano State.
The statement, signed by Abdullahi Sulaiman on behalf of the board’s Executive Secretary, Abba El-Mustapha, said the actors’ appearance in the controversial video sparked public outrage among residents of the state.
According to the board, the suspension will prevent both actors from participating in any film-related activities in Kano State for one year.
It added that the board is empowered by law to sanction Kannywood practitioners who violate its regulations and warned that failure to comply with the directive could lead to tougher penalties.
The board also urged actors, producers, and directors in the Kannywood industry to avoid actions capable of damaging the image of the industry.
El-Mustapha further cautioned filmmakers against disregarding the suspension order, stressing that any violation would amount to a breach of the board’s regulations.
