Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has signed Executive Order No. 002 of 2026, restricting the movement of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada, between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. across the state as part of measures aimed at enhancing security.
The governor said the directive is designed to curb criminal activities and strengthen public safety. He added that the order would also ensure stricter enforcement of vehicle registration regulations and improve traffic control across Oyo State.
According to Makinde, security reports have shown that unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles are frequently used in the commission of crimes, making it necessary to tighten enforcement measures.
He noted that the decision followed recent security incidents in the state, including the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area.
The governor urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities through the state’s toll-free emergency number, 615.
Makinde also praised security agencies and the Oyo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun Corps, for their continued efforts in safeguarding lives and property across the state.
