A former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammadu Besse, has reportedly died while being held captive by bandits.
Besse was abducted earlier this month by armed criminals operating in the North-West region.
The development was made public on Tuesday by security and conflict journalist Bakatsine through a post on X.
The late politician had previously appeared in a viral video alongside an associate, where both men were seen being humiliated by their captors in the Birnin Gwari forest.
According to Bakatsine, Besse’s death has now been confirmed, making him the second victim featured in the video to die in captivity.
He stated that the two men never had the opportunity to reunite with their families following their abduction, describing the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy that highlights the worsening security challenges facing communities across northern Nigeria.
Bakatsine also offered prayers for the deceased, asking God to forgive them, grant them eternal rest, and comfort their grieving families.
The deaths have renewed concerns over persistent insecurity, kidnappings, and banditry across several parts of the North-West region.
