The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned power outage that will affect several parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday as it carries out scheduled maintenance at the Katampe 132/33 KiloVolt (kV) Transmission Substation.
In a statement issued in Abuja, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, said the maintenance exercise will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
She explained that the operation is part of the company’s routine preventive maintenance programme on the 100 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) 132/33kV Power Transformer (TR1), including its auxiliary equipment and associated switchgear at the substation.
According to Mbah, the maintenance will temporarily prevent the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) from receiving bulk power for distribution to customers in the affected areas.
Communities expected to experience the outage include Mpape, Maitama, Jahi, Life Camp, Kado Fish Market, Idu-Karmo, and surrounding neighbourhoods.
TCN apologised to residents and businesses that may be affected by the temporary disruption, noting that the maintenance is necessary to ensure the reliability and efficient performance of transmission equipment.
The company urged electricity consumers in the affected locations to bear with the inconvenience, assuring them that normal power supply would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.
