Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has once again encouraged Nigerians to embrace home gardening after harvesting fresh vegetables from her garden at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The harvest took place during a routine visit to the vegetable garden on Monday. The garden, established about two years ago under the Every Home A Garden initiative, continues to produce a variety of vegetables, including spinach, waterleaf and fluted pumpkin.

After the harvest, the First Lady shared part of the fresh produce with members of her staff, urging Nigerians to cultivate the habit of generosity by sharing with others.
The vegetable garden was launched in July 2024 as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative, aimed at promoting household farming, improving food security and helping families reduce the cost of feeding amid rising food prices.

The initiative also introduced the Every Home A Garden competition to encourage women and households across the country to grow vegetables within their homes.
At the unveiling of the garden, Oluremi Tinubu explained that the project was designed to demonstrate that even limited spaces could be used to produce nutritious food for families.
The Villa garden features crops such as spinach, waterleaf, bitter leaf, scent leaf, ewedu, okra and lemongrass, and remains a key part of the First Lady’s campaign for healthy living, environmental sustainability and increased local food production.
