Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for the immediate arrest and investigation of Senator Francis Fadahunsi following the circulation of a video in which the lawmaker was allegedly heard making threats against members and supporters of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Adeleke made the demand on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Osogbo, saying he had already reported the matter to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
According to the governor, the police chief confirmed that the video existed and assured him that appropriate action would be taken.
Adeleke described the alleged comments as a serious security concern, insisting that the matter had gone beyond ordinary political disagreements.
He said the senator was allegedly heard calling for the killing of Accord Party leaders, supporters and their relatives, including wives and children, if the party’s members were encountered.
“This is now beyond politics. This is now a national security threat that requires the attention of the President through the Office of the National Security Adviser,” Adeleke said.
The governor further urged the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services to investigate and arrest Fadahunsi over what he described as an alleged incitement to violence against people in Ijesaland and Osun State.
The controversy intensified after Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, shared the video on social media and provided an English interpretation of the senator’s alleged remarks.
However, Fadahunsi rejected the allegations, maintaining that the video circulating online had been edited to misrepresent what he actually said.
In a statement personally signed by the senator, he explained that his comments were made in response to alleged attacks on members of the All Progressives Congress in Ilesa and other parts of Osun State.
Fadahunsi claimed that several APC members had been killed and warned that the party would retaliate if attacks against its members continued.
He said his remarks were not a general call for the killing of Accord Party members but a warning that APC supporters would defend themselves against further attacks.
The senator also accused the Osun State Government of failing to adequately condemn alleged violence against APC members and urged residents of Ijesaland to reject violence and participate peacefully in Saturday’s election.
Meanwhile, Adeleke raised another concern, alleging that a police directive had been issued for the arrest of Accord Party leaders across the state.
According to the governor, the alleged directive instructed that those arrested should be taken to Abuja and detained until after the election.
Adeleke said that, if confirmed, such an operation would amount to an attempt to use security agencies to influence the outcome of the governorship election.
He also called for an end to what he described as the “illegal operations” of the Intelligence Response Team, alleging that its operatives had been arresting Accord Party leaders across various local government areas without sufficient justification.
The governor urged the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to uphold due process and remain neutral before, during and after the election.
He said security agencies must operate within the law and ensure that the rights of citizens and the integrity of the electoral process are protected.
The allegations come just days before the Osun State governorship election, with political tensions rising as major parties intensify their campaigns and mobilise supporters across the state.
