The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Akanmu Ladoja, has praised the Nigerian Baptist Convention for its longstanding contributions to education, character development and the advancement of society.
The monarch made the commendation on Thursday, August 13, 2026, when the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. Olusola Idowu, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Rev. Idowu was accompanied by the Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence Dr. Sunday Olamakinde.
Reflecting on his personal experience with Baptist education, Oba Ladoja recalled his time at Olivet Baptist Secondary School, where he received part of his early education.
The Olubadan said the education, discipline and values he acquired at the institution played an important role in shaping his life and personal development.
He noted that without the foundation he received through Baptist education, his life could have taken a different direction, stressing the lasting impact of quality education on individuals and the wider society.
Oba Ladoja further described the Baptist Church as a major contributor to educational and social development, particularly through its emphasis on Christian values, discipline and character formation.
He referred to Baptists as “people of the Book,” while expressing appreciation for the principles and training associated with the church’s educational institutions.
Responding, Rev. Idowu thanked the Olubadan for the warm reception and his recognition of the Baptist Church’s contributions to education and national development.
The Baptist Convention president conveyed the greetings of the Nigerian Baptist Convention to the monarch and presented him with a copy of the Holy Bible as a symbol of their shared commitment to the Word of God.
Rev. Idowu described the visit as memorable and meaningful, expressing appreciation to Oba Ladoja and Dr. Olamakinde for their encouraging remarks.
The meeting highlighted the enduring influence of Baptist educational institutions in Nigeria and their role in nurturing individuals who have gone on to make significant contributions to society.
