The All Progressives Congress has announced the winners of its House of Representatives primary elections across the 13 federal constituencies in Rivers State, with Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, , emerging as one of the successful candidates.

The party had earlier disqualified four aspirants aligned with Governor , including three serving members of the House of Representatives, while clearing 20 others to participate in the primaries held on Saturday.

Chairman of the APC House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, Wahab Owokoniran, announced the results at the party’s state secretariat in Port Harcourt after collation officers submitted results from the various constituencies. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, including Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Johnson Sinikiem, were present during the exercise.

Amaewhule, who contested as the sole aspirant for Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency 1, secured 17,968 votes to clinch the APC ticket for the 2027 general election.

Declaring the result, Owokoniran said Amaewhule satisfied all constitutional requirements of the party and scored the highest number of votes.

Other winners included Igwe Precious, who polled 5,885 votes unopposed in Port Harcourt Federal Constituency, and serving lawmaker Dumnamene Dekor, who defeated Israel Ngbuelo in Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency with 17,073 votes against 1,220.

In Degema-Bonny Federal Constituency, Cyril Hart defeated Philemon Tombodiea after scoring 7,203 votes to his opponent’s 1,020.

Felix Nweke emerged unopposed in Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo Federal Constituency with 18,605 votes, while Isobo Solomon defeated Luke Enerine in Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru Federal Constituency with 11,303 votes to 954.

  • Chukwuemele Obuzor for Ahoada West/Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Federal Constituency with 15,626 votes.
  • Fredrick Apiafi for Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro Federal Constituency with 8,550 votes.
  • Chibuzor Nwamaka, who defeated Queen Obasi in Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency with 10,414 votes to 2,123.
  • Joy Nyebuchi, who won Ikwerre/Emuoha Federal Constituency with 13,704 votes against Lawrence Ogbor’s 2,030.
  • Blessing Amadi, sole aspirant for Port Harcourt Constituency 2, with 5,674 votes.
  • Linda Steward, who defeated Tekena Ikaki in Okrika/Ogu-Bolo Federal Constituency with 12,247 votes to 388.
  • Solomon Bob, who polled 16,079 votes unopposed in Abua/Odual/Ahoada East Federal Constituency.

Speaking after the exercise, Owokoniran described the primaries as peaceful and orderly, noting that contrary to public perception, Rivers State remained calm throughout the process.

He praised party members for conducting themselves peacefully and expressed confidence that the APC would perform strongly in the 2027 elections, including the presidential and governorship polls.

The APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Chibike Ikenga, also commended the peaceful conduct of the primaries and urged victorious candidates to remain humble.

According to him, the party would work towards reconciling aggrieved aspirants and mobilising members ahead of the general election.

The primaries were reportedly dominated by loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, . Many of the successful aspirants are associated with the “Rainbow Coalition” or “Joint Coalition,” a political arrangement aimed at uniting APC and PDP supporters in Rivers State in support of President ahead of the 2027 elections.
