The Oyo State Government has refuted reports alleging the presence of bandits and armed gunmen along the Ogbomoso-Iseyin axis, particularly around the Adebayo Alao-Akala Highway, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement released through the Office of the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, the government explained that the convoy seen in the area consisted of security personnel led by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Mr. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire.
According to the statement, the officials were on an official security assessment visit to Yawota and Elesinle communities alongside the Inspector General of Police following recent security concerns in the area.
The government noted that the visit formed part of ongoing coordinated efforts aimed at strengthening security operations and engaging affected communities.
It assured residents that security agencies were actively carrying out rescue missions and other operations to restore peace and stability in the affected locations.
The state government also cautioned residents against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic and fear among the public.
Residents were urged to rely on verified information from appropriate authorities and continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence.
The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the Oyo State Government and security agencies to safeguarding lives and property while sustaining peace across the state.
