A 34-year-old teacher at Shitima Secondary School in Kabwe, Zambia, has reportedly died by suicide after allegedly fearing public exposure over unpaid debts.
The deceased, identified as Konkola, taught English and Religious Education at the Catholic mission school. According to reports, she became distressed after one of her creditors allegedly confronted her and threatened to expose her as a scammer over the outstanding debt.
In the days leading up to her death, Konkola reportedly invited her mother to visit her from Mkushi, also in Zambia’s Central Province. Upon arriving at her daughter’s residence, the mother found her unconscious. The house was reportedly filled with the smell of unidentified chemicals.
Police in Zambia’s Central Province confirmed that the teacher was discovered unconscious at about 5:00 p.m. and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The management of Shitima Secondary School has confirmed her death, describing her as a dedicated, hardworking, and cheerful member of staff whose loss has deeply affected the school community.
Shitima Secondary School is a grant-aided Catholic mission school run under the guidance of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. The institution is known for its commitment to academic excellence and holistic student development.
Authorities have not released further details as investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death continue.
