The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has warned that it will resist the re-election bid of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, if the persistent attacks on rural communities by suspected herders are not urgently addressed.

In a statement issued on Friday, MASSOB leader Uchenna Madu urged the governor to prioritize the security and welfare of Enugu residents above political ambitions, especially in light of recent killings in the Ikpakpara and Agu-Amed autonomous communities in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.

“We demand justice and accountability. The governor must take immediate action to safeguard vulnerable communities and uphold the safety of our people,” Madu stated.

MASSOB condemned the renewed assaults on farming settlements, particularly in Agamede and Mgbuji, where suspected Fulani herdsmen have carried out deadly attacks. The group emphasized that any bid for a second term by Governor Mbah should be contingent on his commitment to protecting lives and property.

The group highlighted the worsening security situation in Eha-Amufu, a region that borders Benue State and has witnessed repeated violent invasions. According to MASSOB, at least 163 residents have been killed between 2021 and mid-June 2025. In just the past two weeks, 16 more people were reported dead in fresh attacks.

The ultimatum from MASSOB comes amid mounting public concern over the lack of effective government response to the rural security crisis. As Governor Mbah eyes re-election in the 2027 general elections, the group’s position could pose a significant challenge to his political future.

MASSOB urged the Enugu State government to take decisive steps to curb the violence, stressing the need for stronger security measures to protect farming communities that remain highly vulnerable to attacks.
