A judge of the Bayelsa State High Court, Justice E.G. Umokoro, was abducted by unknown gunmen on the evening of Saturday, June 21, in Yenagoa, the state capital.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. near a popular eatery in the Ekeki area along the Chief Melford Okilo Expressway. Justice Umokoro, who presides over High Court 7, was reportedly attacked by masked assailants dressed in black uniforms.
The gunmen allegedly fired shots at the judge but missed, before blocking his vehicle with an unmarked white Hilux van. They then forcefully dragged him out and fled the scene with him. His black Toyota Prado SUV was left behind at the scene.
A video circulating online shows Justice Umokoro resisting as he was being forced into the white Hilux by his abductors, who eventually drove off with him.
As of the time of reporting, the Bayelsa State Police Command has not issued any official statement regarding the abduction.
