In a horrifying case from Bayelsa State, a 42-year-old man, Samuel Otasi, has been arrested for allegedly poisoning his three sons following a church prophecy accusing them of witchcraft.

According to reports from the Igbogeni Divisional Police Headquarters, Otasi—assisted by a relative—forced his sons aged 10, 12, and 14 to drink Sniper, a highly toxic insecticide. The disturbing act was said to have been spurred by a prophecy delivered by one George Odugo during a church service. Odugo allegedly claimed the boys had been bewitched by their mother and were destined to ruin their father’s life.

Two of the children died from the poisoning, while the third miraculously survived. The surviving child managed to escape from the bush where they had been taken, tied up, and poisoned. He later recounted how both his father and uncle forced them to ingest the chemical, with injuries from the rope still visible on his body.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the case, which has sparked outrage and renewed concerns over the dangerous consequences of unchecked spiritual prophecies and child abuse.
