Nigeria Democratic Congress Fixes Presidential Form At N60m Ahead Of 2027 Elections

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has fixed the cost of its presidential nomination and expression of interest forms at N60 million ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party also announced that its presidential primary election will take place on May 29, 2026, in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s National Chairman, , the NDC unveiled the timetable for its primary elections and outlined the procedures for aspirants seeking elective positions.

According to the statement, the sale of forms will begin on May 13 and end on May 18 as part of preparations for the party’s internal electoral process.

The party explained that nomination forms would be sold immediately after the screening exercise from May 21 to May 23, while completed forms must be returned on or before May 25.

It added that appeals arising from the screening exercise would be handled between May 25 and May 26, while primaries for various elective offices are scheduled for May 27 and May 28.

“The presidential primary election is slated for May 29, 2026, in Abuja,” the statement noted.

The party further stated that aspirants for state Houses of Assembly would be screened in their respective states, while screening for National Assembly and presidential hopefuls would hold at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

Cleopas said all aspirants would be required to sign an undertaking in line with the party’s code of conduct and electoral guidelines.

He also disclosed that the party would adopt an open secret ballot system during the primaries to promote transparency, fairness, and internal democracy.

Under the approved fee structure, aspirants for state Houses of Assembly are expected to pay N2.5 million for both nomination and expression of interest forms, while House of Representatives hopefuls will pay N6 million.

Senatorial aspirants are to pay N8 million, while governorship candidates will pay N30 million.

For the presidency, aspirants are expected to pay N20 million for the expression of interest form and N40 million for the nomination form, bringing the total to N60 million.

The NDC also announced discounts for special categories of aspirants, stating that women would pay 50 per cent of the approved fees, while persons living with disabilities would pay only 25 per cent across all categories.

The party maintained that its nomination fees remain lower than those charged by some major political parties and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting credible and transparent primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.
