Tension has heightened in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election following an alleged attack on an Accord Party office in Ilesa, where suspected political thugs reportedly destroyed chairs, banners and other campaign materials.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Saturday, August 8, 2026, forced party supporters at the facility to flee for safety.
Videos circulating from the scene showed the interior of the party office in disarray, with several items allegedly damaged during the attack.
A source within the party expressed concern over what was described as a growing pattern of attacks against Accord Party offices in the state, saying the incidents were creating fear among supporters ahead of the election.
“This is the second time in two weeks that our offices have come under attack,” the source alleged, accusing supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of being behind the attacks.
The allegation, however, was not independently verified.
In a separate video, suspected thugs were also seen pulling down an Accord Party billboard erected in support of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Some residents who witnessed the incident reportedly expressed concern over the destruction, particularly with the election only days away.
The latest incident comes amid growing political tension between rival political groups in Osun State, with allegations and counter-allegations of violence being traded ahead of the governorship poll.
Meanwhile, the Imole Campaign Council, which is coordinating Governor Adeleke’s re-election campaign, has alleged that the state Commissioner for Environment, Mayowa Anjoorin, was abducted during an attack on Accord Party leaders in Ilesa.
The campaign council also accused the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, of holding a secret late-night meeting with some APC chieftains.
In a statement issued in Osogbo on Saturday and addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, the council alleged that the police commissioner had failed to prevent attacks and intimidation allegedly targeting Accord Party members across the state.
The statement was signed by Bamidele Sallam, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee of the Imole Campaign Organisation.
The campaign council called on the Inspector-General of Police to intervene and ensure the safety of political parties, candidates and their supporters as the state approaches the August 15 governorship election.
The allegations contained in the statement had not been independently confirmed at the time of reporting.
With the election just days away, concerns over political violence have continued to mount, placing increased pressure on security agencies and political actors to ensure a peaceful electoral process in Osun State.
