Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, , may face disqualification from the African Democratic Congress senatorial primary after failing to appear before the party’s screening panel.
Kingibe, who is seeking a second term in the Senate, recently defected from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 elections. She won the FCT senatorial seat under the Labour Party during the 2023 general election.
Sources within the ADC said the senator’s absence from the screening exercise could affect her eligibility to secure the party’s ticket.
A party insider alleged that Kingibe was pushing for an automatic ticket, which was why she did not participate in the screening process.
According to the source, failure to appear before the screening panel raises questions about how the senator would qualify for the party’s nomination.
The development comes amid growing competition within the ADC, as several aspirants are reportedly contesting for the party’s FCT senatorial ticket. Some party members have also expressed concerns over alleged preferential treatment within the process.
The situation follows an earlier legal dispute involving Kingibe and some ADC ward leaders in Abuja.
In April, a Federal High Court dismissed an attempt by some ADC leaders in Wuse, Abuja, to prevent the senator from taking part in party activities.
The ward executives had accused Kingibe of anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and withholding ward records, claiming they had suspended her from the party. However, the court rejected the move, allowing the senator to continue participating in ADC affairs.
