The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed allegations that its leader, Senator , is secretly working for President and the ruling .
Speaking in an interview with Leadership, the party’s spokesman, Abdulmumin Ohiare Abdulsalam, described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that Dickson remains fully committed to the ideals and mission of the NDC.
Abdulsalam said the former Bayelsa State governor has maintained a strong reputation throughout his political career and has consistently prioritised national interest.
“I want to categorically debunk the allegation or insinuation that our party or leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, is working for the APC,” he said.
According to him, Dickson has remained a principled politician with progressive views and a strong commitment to national development.
“His Excellency, Senator Seriake Dickson, is a highly reputable politician with an unblemished record. He has been a leftist throughout his political career and is a steadfast nationalist who has the interest of the nation at heart,” Abdulsalam added.
The spokesman further stated that Dickson is not acting on behalf of the Tinubu administration or the APC, stressing that the NDC leader is focused on building the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I can confirm that Senator Seriake Dickson is not a mercenary working for President Tinubu or the ruling party. He is fully committed to the political ideals he is presenting to Nigerians and is working hard to ensure that the party emerges victorious in the 2027 elections and beyond,” he said.
Abdulsalam also revealed that Dickson is among a group of influential party leaders currently consulting on the NDC’s presidential ticket. The trio includes former Anambra State governor and former Kano State governor .
He disclosed that Obi is currently the only aspirant who has obtained and passed screening for the party’s presidential nomination form.
“For now, only Peter Obi has picked the presidential nomination form and has been successfully screened by the party’s screening committee,” he stated.
Abdulsalam added that Obi could emerge as the party’s presidential candidate if no other aspirant joins the race, while Kwankwaso may become his running mate.
Clarifying reports surrounding Rivers State politics, the NDC spokesman said the Fubara who recently joined the party is not Governor , but rather his brother.
“The Fubara who actually joined the NDC is a brother of the incumbent governor, not Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Governor Fubara is not a member of our party and has not shown any intention, either covertly or openly, to join our party,” he explained.
On preparations for upcoming elections, Abdulsalam said the party is getting ready for a senatorial by-election in Nasarawa State following the death of a senator.
He noted that Hon. Ishaya Dodo had already obtained the party’s nomination form for the contest, adding that the NDC may not conduct another primary for the seat in 2027 if Dodo wins the by-election.
The spokesman also said the party plans to adopt a mix of consensus arrangements and primary elections in selecting candidates across the country, depending on political realities in various states and constituencies.
“In some communities, constituencies, and senatorial zones, we will have to conduct primaries, while others may adopt affirmation through consensus candidates. It depends on the local political realities,” he said.
He maintained that the party remains committed to transparent internal processes as more aspirants continue to obtain nomination forms nationwide.
