Residents and civil society activists under the banner of the Take-It-Back Movement on Monday defied heavy rainfall to stage a protest at the Oyo State Government House in Ibadan, demanding urgent government intervention in the state’s worsening security situation.
The demonstrators, who initially gathered at Mokola Roundabout, marched through major roads in the state capital before arriving at the Government House, where they voiced concerns over the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.
Despite the downpour, the protesters remained resolute, chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards with messages calling for improved security across the state.
Among the inscriptions displayed were: “Security for all, not for a few,” “End kidnapping in Oyo State now,” “Safer roads and communities now,” and “Protect farmers, traders and students.”
The protesters said the demonstration was aimed at drawing attention to the growing insecurity affecting residents and to demand swift action from authorities to secure the release of those abducted.
The protest follows widespread public outrage over the recent kidnapping of pupils and teachers in communities within Oriire Local Government Area, where armed assailants reportedly invaded schools and abducted several victims.
The incident has heightened concerns about the safety of students, teachers, farmers, traders and other residents, prompting renewed calls for stronger security measures across Oyo State.
Participants urged the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities, stressing that citizens deserve to live and work in a safe environment.
