Isaac Fayose has publicly endorsed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing him as Nigeria’s “incoming president” following a visit by the former Anambra State governor to his residence on Saturday.
The declaration marks a dramatic shift in tone after Fayose recently criticised Obi for allegedly failing to acknowledge his support during the 2023 presidential campaign.
Sharing a video of the visit on his Instagram page, Fayose expressed excitement over hosting Obi and reaffirmed his commitment to the Obidient Movement.
“It is not every day the President comes to your house. Our incoming president. So shall it be, in Jesus’ name,” Fayose said in the video.
Addressing those who had questioned his loyalty, he added, “For those abusing me, you can see now that I am 100 per cent Obidient. You too should be Obidient. We are together, and we are winning.”
Responding, Obi dismissed many of the online attacks against Fayose, saying a significant number of those insulting him were not genuine supporters of the movement.
According to Obi, some individuals are allegedly recruited to spread insults and misinformation online rather than promote constructive political engagement.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate also stressed the importance of accepting criticism, noting that leaders must be willing to listen, learn and admit mistakes.
“My people know that I welcome criticism. If I do something wrong, I want to hear it,” Obi said. “A leader who believes he knows everything should not lead. Leadership requires being a listener and a learner.”
The visit comes just days after Fayose publicly expressed disappointment over what he described as Obi’s failure to appreciate the support he offered during the 2023 election campaign.
Fayose had claimed he made personal sacrifices for the Obidient Movement, including making his hotel available to supporters, but said those efforts were never acknowledged by Obi.
Saturday’s meeting, however, appeared to signal a reconciliation between the two, with both men exchanging warm remarks and projecting unity ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
